Plaid Patchwork Purse

It's well known to everyone who sews: fabric scraps and remainders tend to pile up over time remarkably. Sorting through a long abandoned carton I came across the brown plaid which, believe it or not, has been there for more than 30 years. What to do with it?

Actually, I was looking for a gift, since a friend was throwing a birthday-cum-house-warming-party. So I thought it could be made into something warm and cosy: a little purse to hold whatsoever, pretty enough to blend in with my friend's stylish place, when left lying about.

The front side is pieced as a log cabin - well, sort of - on the back the mixed stripes are repeated in a row fitted in between 2 plaid pieces.

Looking at the purse now that it's done, I seem to like the back even better, since the patched strip comes across calmer than the log cabin on the front. Again, the thing that actually bothers me may well be that I quilted next to the seams instead of in a more independent fashion, which might have created a quieter look in the first place.

Inside

The purse is lined partly with the plaid, partly with some soft black fabric, and closes on 2 pieces of velcro.
